5 Questions to Ask Any Data Provider Before You Buy

A B2B contact list is only as good as the process behind it. Before you commit to any provider — including us — these five questions will tell you more than any sales page will.

1. Where does the data actually come from?

"We have a proprietary database" isn't an answer — it's a way of avoiding one. A provider that's confident in their sourcing will tell you plainly: how many sources, what kind, and roughly how often they're refreshed. If the answer is vague, that's usually because the honest answer wouldn't be reassuring.

2. Is there an actual human review step, or only automated checks?

Automated checks are useful — they catch malformed email addresses and obvious duplicates quickly. What they can't catch is whether a person's title is still accurate, or whether they've left the company entirely. That takes an actual person reviewing the record, not just a script. Ask directly whether manual review happens before a list ships, not just whether the data was "verified" at some point in the past.

3. What happens if the data turns out to be wrong?

This is the single most revealing question you can ask. Every provider will claim high accuracy. Far fewer will put a real, specific guarantee behind that claim. Ask exactly what percentage of bounces triggers a replacement or refund, and exactly how long you have after delivery to report them. A provider unwilling to commit to specific numbers here is telling you something, even if they don't say it directly.

4. Can you see a sample before you pay?

A legitimate provider should have no hesitation letting you test a small sample against your own criteria before you commit to a full purchase. If a provider pushes you straight to a large purchase with no way to verify quality first, that's worth treating as a caution sign rather than confidence.

5. How long will delivery actually take?

Outreach campaigns run on timelines. A provider should be able to give you a real, specific delivery window up front — not "as soon as possible." Vague delivery promises tend to correlate with vague everything else.

How we'd answer these, plainly

Since we'd rather you ask than assume: our data is compiled from 21 distinct sourcing channels, every list goes through manual verification before it ships, and if hard bounces exceed 10% within 90 days of delivery, we replace or refund the invalid records at no extra cost. We also offer up to 10 free sample contacts before you commit to anything, and standard delivery runs 3–5 business days depending on file size.

Whichever provider you choose, asking these five questions up front will tell you far more than any homepage claim — ours included.
